About Me

My name is Eden Bell (they/them), and I’m a Washington County-based birth doula serving the Portland metro area. Ever since a young age I’ve been fascinated with pregnancy, birth, and childcare, and I can probably attribute this love of mine to my mom.

When I was younger, the two of us would spend quality time together watching television shows about expectant parents going through the ups and downs of expanding their families. She would also let me tag along when she babysat for family and friends. When I became a big sister myself, I helped her to raise my little brother. In all of this my mother taught me all about the warmth and steadiness it takes to not just be a parent, but a caregiver and a supportive community member.

I grew up with nurturing as the backbone of my childhood. Getting to experience the vibrancy of being queer and biracial, and growing through my own struggles with abuse and trauma, I developed a passion of wanting uphold my community.

What Drives Me?

I believe that everyone has the right to a safe, satisfying, and informed birth. I work with the knowledge that those who live in systemically marginalized communities often do not have access to the information and resources needed in order to achieve this, and are often faced with more barriers and risks than those who are white, cisgender, heterosexual, able-bodied, and neurotypical. This NEEDS to change, and I want to facilitate this change within my local community by providing accessible doula services.

It’s been proven by several studies that having the continual support of a doula during labor improves a number of outcomes for both the laboring person and their baby. In a world where some communities are faced with numerous challenges and risks (some life-threatening), a doula can make a world of a difference.

I am dedicating my practice to those communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am currently in the middle of the certification process. Having completed the DONA-approved birth doula workshop, lactation support, and childbirth education (35 hours worth of training!), I have completed three of the twelve steps needed to become certified, and am well on my way to completing the other steps. If you would like to, and are able, you can support me by buying or donating one of the books from my wishlist to help further my education, or by hiring me as your birth doula!

  • I have undergone a DONA-approved workshop taught by Sharon Muza, a seasoned birth doula based in Seattle. This 25-hour workshop included hands-on training as well as an additional 3 hours of online modules and 7 hours of childbirth education (totaling 35 hours). I have also completed a 3-hour lactation support class. You may find the certificates of completion as well as any future certifying documents here.

  • You can submit a contact form here to begin the process. Once I receive it, I’ll send you a follow up email to schedule an initial interview. The interview portion serves as a way for us to get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit. If by the end we decide to work together, we’ll discuss payment (which tier you qualify for and the implementation of a payment plan, if applicable) I’ll provide you with a contract to sign, a confidentiality agreement, as well as an invoice. Unless discussed otherwise, I ask that my clients pay half of the total amount up front to secure their spot in my calendar.
