About Me
My name is Eden Bell (they/them), and I’m a Washington County-based birth doula serving the Portland metro area. Ever since a young age I’ve been fascinated with pregnancy, birth, and childcare. I even dream of becoming a parent myself one day! I can attribute this passion of mine to my own mother, who raised my brother and I by herself. Through her hard work as a single parent, I learned all about the warmth and steadiness it takes to be a caregiver and a supportive community member. Because of her, caregiving comes to me as easy as breathing.
With the skill of nurturing serving as my backbone, my queer and African-American identities serve as my flesh and blood. Growing up I got to witness the vibrancy, ingenuity, love, and resilience of these communities, and from them I derive a lot of joy and strength.
What Drives Me?
Nobody really tells you what raising a family is supposed to look like. You hear so many stories, some of them are fine, others are horror stories. You read website articles and forums that are full of information that may or may not be true. You are told to use products that parents everywhere claim to be their holy grail, only to later see that the product is actually extremely unsafe and comes with several permanent consequences. You also have to deal with the challenges life is known to come with: stress, medical issues, financial struggles- the list is truly endless. And on top of that, many of these woes are exacerbated by barriers and risks put in place by systematic oppression (in legislation, the workplace the medical field, etc.), past trauma, mental illness, disabilities, and much more.
When all is said and done. Raising a family is hardly ever only about carrying a baby for nine months, laboring, going home with your baby, and living happily ever after.
As a doula, I aim to help families by providing them with the necessary tools, information, and support needed to navigate their unique journey to parenthood, even if it isn’t their first time doing so.
Everyone has the right to feel safe, happy, and healthy in their own bodies. When we are taken care of, we are able to spread that goodness to those around us, so I suppose that through my work, I am helping make the world a better place, one family at a time.

I am currently in the middle of the certification process. Having completed the DONA-approved birth doula workshop, lactation support, and childbirth education (35 hours worth of training!), I have completed three of the twelve steps needed to become certified, and am well on my way to completing the other steps. If you would like to, and are able, you can support me by buying or donating one of the books from my wishlist to help further my education, or by hiring me as your birth doula!

I have undergone a DONA-approved workshop taught by Sharon Muza, a seasoned birth doula based in Seattle. This 25-hour workshop included hands-on training as well as an additional 3 hours of online modules and 7 hours of childbirth education (totaling 35 hours). I have also completed a 3-hour lactation support class. You may find the certificates of completion as well as any future certifying documents here.

You can submit a contact form here to begin the process. Once I receive it, I’ll send you a follow up email to schedule an initial interview. The interview portion serves as a way for us to get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit. If by the end we decide to work together, we’ll discuss payment (which tier you qualify for and the implementation of a payment plan, if applicable) I’ll provide you with a contract to sign, a confidentiality agreement, as well as an invoice. Unless discussed otherwise, I ask that my clients pay half of the total amount up front to secure their spot in my calendar.

Because I am an Oregon-certified traditional healthcare worker, I can take clients with Oregon Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan. This insurance covers the cost of a base package (two prenatal support visits, two postpartum support visits, and support during day of delivery) as well as four additional support visits that can be conducted before or after your birth.
